In this topic, you’ll learn the basics you need to know before start using messages in upKeeper.
Messages can be used for many different reasons, for example it can be used inform other administrators using the web or send messages to all computers in the system. When the message function was design and initially developed it was with application changes in mind. When an organization where about to implement a new application or make application updated affecting many users we saw a need to inform the users. We also saw scenario where helpdesk personal could send messages to users informing about problems and service down, which should reduce users contacting helpdesk reporting a known problem.
Messages can be created on different levels, on installation level or organization level. Messages created on installation level can be sent to all computers registered in the system regardless of organization. Messages created on organization level can be sent to all computers of the organization or to one or more groups of computers. If you for some reason want send a message to a single computer you can create a group, add the computer to the group and then create and send the message to the created group. Added messages will be shown within 30 minutes on computers connected to system where a user is logged in. Message window shown on
Messages has been further developed after a customer saw another use of the message function. The customer had a scenario where they had the need to inform all or some specific department
